GLP-1 Supported Treatment
A thoughtful, individualized medication option for selected patients.
What are GLP-1s?
GLP-1 receptor agonists, often called GLP-1s, are medications originally developed to treat type 2 diabetes and later approved for weight management. Medications in this class include semaglutide and liraglutide, commonly known by brand names like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Saxenda.
Researchers are also studying how GLP-1s may affect brain pathways involved in reward, motivation, cravings, and impulse control. Early findings suggest these medications help reduce the intensity and urgency of cravings for some individuals.
At The Meadows, GLP-1s are not used as a standalone treatment for addiction. When clinically appropriate, they may be integrated into comprehensive care alongside therapy, medical oversight, and recovery support.

How GLP-1s Support Recovery Treatment
- May reduce the intensity and persistence of cravings, creating more space to engage in recovery work.
- Supports impulse control by influencing reward and motivation pathways in the brain.
- May help reduce mental preoccupation with substances or compulsive behaviors.
- Can support emotional and cognitive capacity for therapy and trauma-focused treatment.
- Integrates with comprehensive care, including medical, psychiatric, nutritional, and behavioral support.
Why Choose Us?
Thoughtful, Evidence-Informed Care
Our approach to GLP-1 integration is cautious, individualized, and grounded in comprehensive evaluation. We carefully assess whether this treatment is appropriate based on each patient’s medical history, recovery needs, and overall clinical picture.
Comprehensive Clinical support
GLP-1s are only considered within the context of whole-person care. Patients receive support through trauma-focused therapy, behavioral treatment, psychiatric care, nutritional guidance, and ongoing medical monitoring.
Safety focused Approach
Patient safety guides every decision we make. Careful screening, ongoing monitoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration help ensure that treatment remains supportive, balanced, and aligned with long-term recovery goals.
How We Incorporate GLP-1 in Our Treatment Plans
Here’s how GLP-1 support may be thoughtfully integrated into the areas we treat.
Alcohol Addiction
Early research is exploring how GLP-1s may influence reward pathways associated with alcohol use. For selected patients, this may help reduce urges and support recovery stability.
Drug Addiction
For some patients, GLP-1s may help decrease the intensity of cravings and create greater pause before acting on urges, allowing for deeper engagement in treatment.
Dual Diagnosis
When addiction and mental health concerns occur together, GLP-1s may provide additional support alongside therapy, psychiatric care, and trauma-focused treatment.
A Measured Approach to Innovation
The science surrounding GLP-1s and addiction treatment is still evolving. While early research and clinical observations are promising, these medications are not appropriate for all patients and are never viewed as a cure for addiction.
At The Meadows, we believe innovation should always be paired with transparency, careful screening, and comprehensive support. Our goal is to responsibly explore emerging evidence-based treatment options while keeping patient safety and long-term healing at the center of our care.

My daughter just completed her 45 days at the Claudia Black Center and it was a life changing experience for her and the family. The treatment team’s priority was my daughter’s well being…The family work was invaluable. They don’t tell you what you want to hear, they tell you what you need to hear…Trust the process.
