Our Approach to Care
Beyond the Model
Our Pillars of Care
A comprehensive, integrated system of care built on seven foundational pillars, all reinforcing and brought to life through our clinical and philosophical foundation: The Meadows Model.
How It All Comes Together
Every patient who walks through our doors, regardless of the reason, is guided by the Meadows Model. This model is not just for trauma survivors—it’s for anyone who has struggled with relationships, self-worth, regulation, adverse life experiences, harmful coping strategies, addictions, or symptoms rooted in past pain.
The pillars of our approach serve to activate and support this model in action, from the legacy and expertise that define our culture to the evidence-based therapy modalities we engage, and the interwoven system of care and aftercare that define the journey.

The Meadows Legacy
A Living Legacy of Healing, Rooted in Trust
For 50 years, The Meadows has set the standard in trauma and addiction care. Built on integrity and rooted in Pia Mellody’s timeless model, our living legacy reflects decades of trusted healing and outcomes that matter. Patients, families, and professionals choose The Meadows because they know we do what’s right, and it works.
Senior Fellows
Guided by Experts and Pioneers
Our Senior Fellows are nationally recognized thought leaders who shape the field—and our care. Their influence is embedded across our system, from program design and clinical architecture to staff training and treatment protocols. Whether it’s Bessel van der Kolk’s contributions to our neurofeedback practices or Claudia Black’s leadership in Family Systems work, these are just a few of the Senior Fellows who actively guide our staff, shape patient experiences, and continuously advance our model of care.

Healing That Fits
Personalized Treatment That Meets You Where You Are
Healing is most effective when care is tailored—and when you’re surrounded by others who truly get what you’re going through. At The Meadows, we offer a wide range of programs and levels of care, many of which are designed to meet individual treatment needs. Whether through shared experiences, expert-led programming, or the right therapeutic setting, we help patients feel seen, supported, and set up for lasting recovery.
Comprehensive Psychiatric & Medical Care
Physician-led, Team-Driven, Patient-Focused
The Meadows provides physician-led psychiatric and medical care supported by integrated multidisciplinary teams. We treat trauma, addiction, eating disorders, mental health challenges, and complex co-occurring conditions. Using diagnostic clarity, we create individualized plans that guide medication use, therapeutic approaches, and clinical modalities. Our services span a wide range, including medication management, medication-assisted treatment, and interventional psychiatric care, supported by an on-site pharmacy to ensure safe and precise access to the latest medications. This approach delivers treatment that is comprehensive, connected, and lasting.

Neuroscience Integration
Healing the Brain to Heal the Whole Individual
Regulating the nervous system is a vital part of healing, helping create the safety in the body that makes recovery possible. When the body feels safe, people can be more present, connect with themselves and others, and make constructive meaning from their experiences. Our neuroscience approach, guided by research and shaped by leaders like Meadows Senior Fellow Bessel van der Kolk, uses tools such as neurofeedback, biofeedback, and somatic practices to calm stress responses and help the brain learn more adaptive ways to respond rather than react. These therapies are one piece of the larger treatment puzzle, supporting integration, strengthening the mind-body connection, and building the methods to move through life with greater stability, awareness, and self-compassion.
Family & Community Connection
Where Healing Extends Beyond the Individual
Healing doesn’t happen in isolation. It includes those closest to the patient—before, during, and after treatment. Drawing from the pioneering work of Meadows Senior Fellow Dr. Claudia Black on family systems and the impact of addiction and trauma, our programs engage families and partners through immersive, on-site programming and prepare patients for life beyond treatment through strong community connections and coordinated continued care. We offer dedicated workshops for families and partners to deepen understanding and support long-term healing. From inpatient care to alumni services, we walk alongside each patient and their loved ones every step of the way.

The Meadows Model
More Than a Pillar—It’s the Foundation
Our clinical foundation. Developed by Pia Mellody and expanded over decades, the Meadows Model addresses developmental immaturity and the lasting effects of trauma and adversity. It’s the compass guiding our care, helping patients heal core wounds and reconnect with their authentic selves.
Together, These Pillars Define
The Meadows Approach to Care
Comprehensive, individualized, clinically grounded, and led with integrity. They support the healing process for every patient, from the inside out, and from admission through lifelong recovery.
