The Meadows Heart Award

Wendy Maltz, LCSW, DST was the Carnes Award winner at the 2014 Society for the Advancement of Sexual Health (SASH) conference held in Portland, OR on October 25. Maltz, an international sex therapist, psychotherapist, author, educator and clinical social worker, was recognized for her outstanding contributions towards sexual abuse and addiction healing in the field of sexual medicine.

Dr. Patrick Carnes, The Meadows Senior Fellow, was the first recipient of the award from the SASH organization to acknowledge his research and publishing contributions to the field of sex addiction as well as for his efforts in founding the SASH organization.

Dr. Carnes is the founder of Gentle Path at The Meadows, the industry’s premier Sex Addiction treatment facility. He is also the founder of the Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals (IITAP). Dr. Carnes’ extensive background in the field of addiction therapy led him to develop multiple cutting-edge recovery programs aimed at treating addictive disorders.

With more than 30 years in the sexual addiction treatment field, Dr. Carnes continues to spread his extensive knowledge as a speaker, presenter and interview subject. His assessment tools and related materials deliver an unprecedented approach to addiction recovery for practitioners of addiction treatment and sexual addicts.

When presenting the 2014 Carnes award, Dr. Carnes described Maltz as a pioneer who “was one of the first of all of us to really see the significance of cybersex and its impact on sexual health.” He praised her for helping to bridge various sexual health and treatment communities with the sex addict recovery communities, and for her enduring commitment to “making sex not only safe, but fun.”

Maltz’s career as a sex and relationship therapist spans 40 years.  She is an established authority on sexual abuse healing, pornography addiction recovery, women’s sexual fantasies, and developing intimacy-­‐based sexuality. Her books include The Sexual Healing Journey, as well as other groundbreaking works, such as The Porn Trap, Private Thoughts, Passionate Hearts, and Intimate Kisses.
