Neurobehavioral Therapy

At The Meadows’ innovative Brain Center, patients use state-of-the-art neurobehavioral equipment to aid in grounding and self-regulation to confront their deeper issues with a calmer spirit. This cutting-edge approach addresses the neuroscience of trauma by attempting to better regulate the limbic system in the brain, which allows for better integration and implementation.

Our Brain Center equipment includes:

Neurofeedback (NFB)

Neurofeedback also called neurobiofeedback or neurotherapy, is a type of biofeedback that uses real-time displays of brain activity—most commonly electroencephalography (EEG), to teach self-regulation of brain function. It addresses brain dysregulation, including anxiety, depression, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), addictive disorders, and emotional disturbances. The Meadows programs use BrainPaint technology for neurofeedback sessions.

CES Stimulation

Cranio-electro stimulation (CES) shows research over a 25-year period as useful for sleep, anxiety, and improved cognitive functioning in populations such as recovering drug addicts and alcoholics. A very small modulated electrical current is supplied to the ear lobes. Patients can engage in other activities during CES sessions. Audio/Visual Stimulation with CES This device combines audio-visual stimulation (AVS) with CES in one unit. These are entrainment devices that combine light and sound to increase the prevalence of certain stress reduction, insomnia, mood disorders, mental sharpness, memory and cognitive functioning. There are preinstalled sessions for energizing, meditation, brain brightening, sleep, and mood boosting.

Heart-Rate Variability (HRV)

This biofeedback device features engaging graphics and graphing capabilities to help patients learn to relax and develop coherent breathing patterns. HRV is helpful in reducing stress, gaining clarity, and developing greater self-awareness of internal reactions.

Hemoencephalography (HEG) Biofeedback

Hemoencephalographic (HEG) biofeedback applies to cerebral blood oxygenation, which allows individuals to learn to control and increase blood flow to the brain. It is primarily used to stimulate underactive frontal lobes that are often seen in many client populations. It is easy to use and works well with other approaches to brain training.

Chi Machine

This machine’s figure-8 goldfish movement provides maximum oxygenation benefits. This oscillation speed is most beneficial to the heart and circulation. Other benefits include improving the immune system and increased lymph flow as it cleanses and removes harmful substances from our tissues and increases our immune function. Restoration of balance to the autonomic nervous system: If the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous systems fail to maintain a balanced function, problems such as insomnia, excessive dreaming, digestive problems, stomach pain, anxiety, constipation, palpitations, extensive forms of aches and pains, and mental stress may surface. The Chi Machine influences the sympathetic nervous system so it can restore the vital balance it needs to function at its best.
