What to Bring

When being admitted at The Meadows, please bring:

 

  • Deposit check
  • Insurance ID
  • Insurance claim form
  • Policy handbook
  • Driver’s license or photo ID
  • CLOTHES:
    In the Sonoran Desert, where The Meadows is located, mornings and evenings are cold, and days are hot. The best clothing is casual, comfortable, and conservative. Bring weatherproof jackets, robes or housecoats, jeans, slacks, sweats, t-shirts, tennis shoes, boots, sandals, or leggings to be worn with long shirts. Appropriate attire for recreational activities includes knee-length shorts (nothing shorter) and one-piece bathing suits. Tank tops/sleeveless shirts are not allowed.

    TOILETRIES:
    Personal toiletries must be in their original containers, and mouthwash must be alcohol-free. Colognes and perfumes are allowed only in atomizers or spray bottles. Nail tools, such as emery boards, clippers, and files, are allowed but must not be longer than 1.5 inches. Battery-operated, electric, and disposable razors are allowed but will be kept by the medical staff when not in use.

    MEDICATIONS
    Only prescribed medications, in their original containers with prescription labels attached, can be brought to the facility. Unlabeled medications, with or without potential for dependency or abuse, are not allowed. The Meadows’ resident doctor will check all medications brought in, so bring only a three-day supply of prescriptions. Birth control pills, vitamins, hormones, etc. are allowed only in their original, sealed containers. We will supply approved supplements and vitamins..

    MISCELLANEOUS:
    The Meadows’ Primary Counselor will check recovery- and treatment-related reading materials. Reading materials that do not fall within the category are not allowed.  Feel free to bring personal stationary, notebooks, pens, stamps, and address books. PDAs (such as Palm Pilots) are allowed but are to be left with staff when not in use. Please bring some cash but no more than $200. Sugarless gum is allowed but candy is not. If you have a Living Will or Advance Directives, bring copies with your medical records.

    PROHIBITED MATERIALS

  • Electronic gadgets, such as cell phones, cameras, laptops, iPods, CD players, electronic games, musical instruments, or anything not related to recovery
  • Unprescribed medication
  • Candy, food, drinks
  • Hobby materials
  • Sports equipment
  • Statement shirts referencing sex, alcohol, or drugs
  • Spandex apparel
  • Aerosol cans (shaving cream excluded)
  • Tobacco or cigars
  • Herbal remedies
  • Large sums of money
  • Tools, sewing kits, pocketknives
  • ALL CLIENTS’ PERSONAL BELONGINGS WILL UNDERGO A THOROUGH SEARCH BY OUR STAFF. PATIENTS MAY BE PRESENT DURING THE SEARCH. PROHIBITED ITEMS WILL BE CONFISCATED OR SHIPPED TO YOUR HOME ADDRESS. The Meadows will not be held responsible for personally kept items; however, we allow access to a safe.
    Smoking is allowed, except by minors, and only in designated areas.
    Laundry is to be done during leisure hours; soap, irons, etc. will be furnished.
    The Meadows allows patients to make phone calls except during scheduled activities.
    Visiting hours are from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sundays and holidays. Patients are allowed visitors seven days after being admitted.
