- Watch Our Video: Family Systems
Over the last couple of decades, everyone from counselors to corporations has emphasized the importance of “wellness.” The concept has become widely known through the media and is considered a foundational principle in the treatment of trauma and addiction. It refers to a balanced, moderate lifestyle incorporating spiritual, intellectual, emotional, social, and physical growth.
More often than not, people who suffer from addiction and trauma engage in hasty decision-making, which brings not only harm to themselves, but an imbalance to their lives. The staff at The Meadows pays close attention to how poor choices create imbalances, and we have expanded our wellness program and holistic methodologies to help patients achieve a more healthy, satisfying lifestyle.
For three decades, The Meadows has distinguished itself as a wellness pioneer in the holistic treatment of various issues. Through the groundbreaking efforts of Pia Mellody, The Meadows’ wellness model is built around five key issues:
- Self-esteem
- Reality
- Boundaries
- Moderation.
- Dependency
As patients learn to discern good choices from unhealthy ones, their self-esteem increases, which helps them create proper boundaries in relationships, live in moderation, and realize their inherent worth. Armed with a proper understanding of their self-worth, patients are empowered to view their shortcomings in an appropriate light and to take responsibility for their wants and needs. All in all, they achieve “wellness.”
The Meadows is a trusted source for breakthrough techniques and innovative therapeutic practices, some of which incorporate ancient healing methods, such as tai chi, yoga, and acupuncture. The Meadows also recently began offering other programs promoting wellness, including water aerobics, deep mediation, Pilates, and music and art therapies. In addition, we are proud to announce the launch of our new Saturday-morning program: animal and equine therapy.
No other treatment program is as committed to holistic and wellness programming. Our expanded wellness program now offers these additional components:
New wellness programming for 2011 also includes:
- Weekend Grief Workshop
- Mindfulness in Recovery Workshop
- Dating in Sobriety Workshop
- 12 Steps in Recovery Workshop
