Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Medical Services Technician conducts assigned clerical duties.
2. Medical Services Technician conducts admissions, including searching the person and his/her luggage, collection and inventory of the belongings and valuables, and providing orientation to the unit and program.
3. Medical Services Technician completes all appropriate documentation maintaining compliance with the policies and procedures of the facility.
4. Medical Services Technician conducts accurate vital signs, both manual and automatic.
5. Medical Services Technician performs all general and specialized administrative assistant/clerical duties in a supportive role to psychology, including but not limited to: typing, filing, copying, data collection and application of various computer programs.
6. Medical Services Technician prepares, scores and assists in administration of psychological tests, as required by psychology services.
7. Unit Secretary/Medical Services Technician completes and documents at least four hours of clinical supervision in a calendar month as a behavioral health technician or a behavioral health paraprofessional who works full-time. Completes and documents one hour of clinical supervision for every 40 hours worked as behavioral health technician or a behavioral health paraprofessional per R9-20-205.
8. Unit Secretary/Medical Services Technician completes and documents at least 48 hours of training during the first 12 months of full-time employment or the equivalent amount for part-time employment. Completes and documents at least 24 hours of training every 12 months of full-time employment or the equivalent amount for part-time employment, after the staff member’s first 12 months of employment as a behavioral health technician or a behavioral health paraprofessional per R9-20-206.
9. Unit Secretary is responsible for scheduling and coordinating patient appointments for the medical doctor and psychiatrists around other therapeutic activities and appointments.
10. Unit Secretary generates charges for physician appointments and treatment planning activities.
11. Unit Secretary schedules peer-to-peer reviews with insurance company doctors to facilitate continued coverage.
12. Medical Services Technician provides the professional staff with a verbal report of the patients’ physical and/or psychological condition and observations of his or her behavior, including patients ordered on monitoring for suicide or self-harm risk.
13. Medical Services Technician provides 1-to-1 or eye-to-eye monitoring to preserve the safety of those patients ordered on such.
14. Medical Services Technician performs patient device inspections.
15. Unit Secretary/Medical Services Technician works as part of a team in the Medical Services Department. (Utilizes supervisory feedback and evaluation to improve performance, attends in-services, ongoing education, training and other activities, maintains and improves competence per HR Joint Commission Standards)
16. Medical Services Technician will drive patients as needed to appointments, meetings and other approved destinations.
17. Unit Secretary/Medical Services Technician responds in a timely manner to all requests from other departments and patients.
18. Unit Secretary/Medical Services Technician keeps the work area maintained in a clean, organized manner.
Qualifications:
1. High school diploma or general education diploma (GED) required.
2. Must be at least 21 years of age in accordance with Department of Health Services R9-20-204.
3. Knowledge of chemical dependency helpful, but not mandatory.
4. If recovering from chemical dependence or other addictions, must be in recovery for a minimum of two years.
5. Current Arizona driver license and excellent driving record required.
6. Must be able to speak, read and write English.
7. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
8. Ability to walk and work standing on feet up to 90% of each shift.
9. Must have high level of physical mobility to assist patient needs.
