Survivors Week is an essential element of The Meadows’ inpatient treatment. It is also offered as an independent program to the general community.
This weeklong workshop investigates the origins of adult dysfunctional behaviors by exploring early childhood trauma that has led to various addictions, depression, eating disorders and painful relationships. In this revolutionary educational and experiential process, participants learn to identify and address family-related issues that took place from birth to 17 years of age. The primary focus of the workshop is to learn to deal with the emotions that accompany any less-than-nurturing past event, and then to work on resolution of the consequential grief and anguish. The Survivors I workshop is divided into three phases:
Informational Phase:
In the first phase, participants are introduced to the concept of boundaries through a series of topic group discussions, specifically focusing on the effects that childhood boundary violations have on adult behaviors. The impact of the significant relationship between the child and the adult, as perceived by the child, is highlighted without placing blame on parents or significant caregivers.
Debriefing Phase:
During the second phase, participants will explore the less-than-nurturing and/or abusive recollected childhood experiences with a focus on the accompanying associated feelings.
Experiential Phase:
In the last phase of Survivors Week, participants will be encouraged to reexamine their childhood relationships in a safe and nurturing environment through the application of Pia Mellody’s techniques for addressing childhood relational trauma issues. This phase typically serves to release painful emotions, with participants beginning the process of reclaiming their rights and personal power.
Survivors Workshop is offered every week of the year (with the exception of Thanksgiving week, Christmas week and New Year’s week.
