Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Implements the nursing process, as it relates to psychiatric and chemical dependency disorders, demonstrating skills in assessment (including admission assessment), preliminary treatment planning, implementation and evaluation.
2. Adheres to safe practice of medication administration in compliance with medication policy (MED700). Facilitates medication education and other patient education utilizing good theoretical knowledge of subject matter and effective communication skills in delivering material.
3. Facilitates primary nurse interviews demonstrating knowledge of psychiatric and chemical dependency disorders.
4. Recognizes and interprets symptoms of withdrawal and demonstrates appropriate judgment in determining medication needs.
5. Completes all documentation including assessments, summaries, treatment plans and progress notes maintaining compliance with the policies and procedures of the facility and its regulating agencies.
6. Completes and documents at least four hours of clinical supervision in a calendar month as a behavioral health technician or a behavioral health paraprofessional who works full time. Completes and documents one hour of clinical supervision for every 40 hours worked as behavioral health technician or a behavioral health paraprofessional per R9-20-205.
7. Completes and documents at least 48 hours of training the first 12 months of full-time employment or the equivalent amount for part-time employment. Completes and documents at least 24 hours of training every 12 months of full-time employment or the equivalent amount for part-time employment, after the staff member’s first 12 months of employment as a behavioral health technician or a behavioral health paraprofessional per R9-20-206.
8. Collaborates with physicians and the treatment team when making decisions about patients’ needs for nursing care. Plans and implements the nursing care for patients in accordance with physician orders, policies and procedures of the facility, and safe nursing practice.
9. Demonstrates ability to intervene appropriately with patients who are in crisis, utilizing de-escalation skills.
10. Works as a team player in the Medical Services Department. (Utilizes supervisory feedback to improve performance, attends-in services, ongoing education, training and other activities, maintains and improves competence per Joint Commission HR 2.30.)
11. In the event of an emergency, the RN on the unit (in deference to Charge Nurse) will proceed to carry out any instructions and make decisions required for continuity of patient care; and notify the appropriate administration and staff members as outlined per policy.

QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Registered and currently licensed to practice in Arizona. Graduation from an accredited school of nursing required with one year of psychiatric or chemical dependency nursing experience desired.
2. If recovering from chemical dependence or other addictions, must be in recovery for a minimum of two years.
3. Must have current CPR certification.
4. Must be able to speak, read and write English.
5. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
6. Ability to walk and work standing on feet up to 90% of each shift.
7. Must have high level of physical mobility to assist patient needs.
