Love Avoidance Treatment

Do you stay in relationships because you feel it’s your obligation, even though the relationship is going down the drain? Maybe you start running from people when you notice them getting closer to you. When you’re in a relationship, do you eventually get the feeling that something is missing? If you answered “yes” to these questions, you may suffer from what experts call love avoidance.
Love avoidance is the refusal to show love for someone out of the fear of being hurt. If you’re intimate with a person, you’re sure to experience pain at times. You are not alone; many people guard themselves when in relationships, avoiding intimacy as much as possible, thinking they’re protecting themselves from rejection and loss.
People who suffer from Love Avoidance do everything they can to conceal their vulnerability from others, especially loved ones. While love avoidance is not avoiding love, per se, it is an unhealthy way of reacting to relationship trauma. Love avoidants have past experiences of feeling unwanted or unloved. They usually need their spouses, partners, or loved ones to enhance their self-esteem through acceptance, praise, and compliments. The Meadows love avoidance treatment uncovers underlying issues which may not have been apparent to the patient prior to treatment in order to begin the healing process at the root of the problem.

Love avoidants act in extremes, such as taking steps to avoid meeting sexual and emotional needs, which can lead to self-destruction. They become afraid of commitments and emotional attachments. In the movies, we see brides and grooms leave partners at the altar, running away because they realize they are not ready to make a commitment. Such characters are good, if extreme, examples of individuals suffering from Love Avoidance.
At The Meadows, love avoidance treatment not only addresses the symptoms but also any issues and factors that contributed to the condition also are analyzed and explained in depth.
If you have problems with love avoidance, call us at . and we’ll tell you more about how we can help.
