Family Treatment Program

At The Meadows treatment centers in Arizona, patients discover that much of their current dysfunctional behavior stems from what they encountered earlier in life. A vital part of the therapeutic process is helping patients learn that such traumatic experiences have affected them deeply, oftentimes more deeply than they realize. When they are able to come to terms with that fact, patients are able to view their addictive behaviors and dependency issues in a more meaningful light.

As part of this transformation, we at The Meadows believe that the family should play a major role in resolving the afflicted individual’s traumatic experiences. For five days of our five-week inpatient treatment program, members of the client’s family — and, where applicable, significant others — are invited to actively participate in the patient’s recovery process. .

During this time, both patient and family come to understand more about the challenges that have affected their family relationships. They also learn better skills of communication, emotional support, and appropriate boundaries, all of which create healing and increase family unity.

Oftentimes various family members have been impacted by the patient’s past behavior, and these family members also need a chance to heal and to learn to trust again. The involvement of the family and loved ones in this treatment process has been shown by research to be a significant factor in achieving long-term healing and recovery. For someone who has battled self-defeating and self-destructive behaviors, gaining the support of family members — especially in learning to speak and support the language of recovery — is a crucial goal of the Family Week experience. The Meadows’ world-renowned experts have been teaching for decades how the family is impacted by an addict’s behavior. Whether our patients suffer from the effects of trauma, addiction, or mental disorders, our safe, comfortable, and dynamic process can bring healing to the entire family.
