Eating Disorders
- Watch Our Video: Addiction
Do you have an obsession with counting calories? Do you rearrange food on your plate prior to eating it, and eat only some types of food while ignoring other foods? Do you use laxatives for weight control? Do your eating habits reflect your moods? If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, you could be suffering from an eating disorder.Ironically, these disorders aren’t about food at all. Rather, people with eating disorders use food to feel in control and to cope with painful emotions such as anger, self-loathing, vulnerability, and fear.

At The Meadows, we use cognitive behavioral therapy and other treatment methods to address unhealthy eating practices and the distorted, negative thoughts that trigger them. We help patients recognize their emotional triggers and teach them to manage those triggers in appropriate ways. We also teach patients the value of good nutrition, healthy weight management, and relaxation techniques.
At The Meadows, we go beyond the symptoms of eating disorders to address the underlying causes, such as childhood trauma and low self-esteem. To learn more about The Meadows’ eating disorders program, contact an Intake Coordinator at
