The Good News

The Good News

By Maureen Canning, MA, LMFT

It is paramount in recovery to accept your own process. We all do it differently. I witness over and over how sex addicts tend to compare their progress in recovery to others. This is born out of the shame of their wounding at the core of their addiction. It is vital that they become aware of this propensity to judge and measure and then learn to intervene on this selfdestructive pattern. This intervention is vital to the early stages of the recovery process because, if we continue to "beat ourselves up," we fuel the shame that drives the addict. If we continue to engage in self-destructive and judgmental thoughts, we are in jeopardy of relapse.

It is fundamental to understand that your healing process is as unique as your fingerprint. It is yours to honor. I support my clients in reciting and internalizing the affirmation and slogans from Alcoholics Anonymous: "Progress, not perfection," and "Easy does it."

Science and Ancient Wisdom: Treatment Here-and-Now

Science and Ancient Wisdom

By Steven Hoskinson, MA, MAT

Before reading further, take 20 to 30 seconds to do this exercise: Let your gaze leave this article and let your eyes look around wherever, and at whatever, they want - just 20 seconds or so. Some say they should do this all the time!

Thanks to the forward-thinking people at The Meadows, the connection between trauma and addiction is better understood and more effectively treated. Part of this treatment at The Meadows' extended-care facilities consists of working with the trauma...

My Free Soul View of Life

My free soul view of life is the story of my life about the details and events of my life? Or is it the flow of a journey toward wholeness, vision, and purpose? Once I process enough details, can I step back and have a view of my path and appreciate the richness of the journey as well as the energy of the learning?

I came into this world of separation to remember the experience of wholeness and oneness. I chose a fractured family to demonstrate polarities and disunity...

Some lecture series, including those in Dallas and Phoenix, have been running for more than seven years. Other cities, such as Allen, Texas, and Chicago, Illinois, are new to the series.
