12-Step Meetings
- Watch Our Video: Family Systems
The 12 Steps are a vital part of The Meadows’ program for treating addictions and compulsions. People who follow The Steps can find significant help in modifying negative behaviors like alcohol and drug abuse. Today’s 12 Step treatment — a modified version of the program conceived in the 1930s by Alcoholics Anonymous — focuses not only on drug addiction and alcoholism, but also on gambling, food addiction, and sex addiction.
The Meadows’ 12 Step program is based on the philosophy of universality, i.e., the belief that no one is alone in the world. As they receive guidance and support from the staff, participants often experience decreased guilt and shame, which are common feelings among addicts.
Participant sharing is one of the most helpful aspects of 12 Step meetings, allowing people to feel heard and speak their minds.
When they release their emotions and feel accepted by the group, participants are better able to process their thoughts and experiences, realize their mistakes, and recognize the situations that led them to addiction.
By meeting the physical, mental, and spiritual needs of clients, The 12 Step program can help prevent relapse. Participants report better self-control and more permanent healing.
The Meadows’ 12 Step meetings are conducted in a private setting that assures complete confidentiality. To learn more, call
